An Adoption Story
I was in the library last night, and read about this woman who killed her adopted daughter (from a foreign country). I forget the woman's name, but the story was in Newsweek, I think. Anyway, she is now serving 19 years in prison for manslaughter. It was a horrible story, but it got me going, since part of the article was about how international adoptions in some countries are decreasing. Who cares? That's a good thing.
There are plenty of children here IN THIS COUNTRY that need homes. Some are babies, and most are older children. When are we going to wake up and smell the love that these children have to offer? What the hell is wrong with this country, that we think it's okay to adopt children from outside the US and leave our own children to suffer? We really need to get our priorities straight!
Lisa over at term paper, recently posted about some parents that gave up their adopted 7 year-old Korean daughter, saying "she can't fit in", after they had two biological children of their own. You can read more at Lisa's blog. Lisa herself is adopted, and I really enjoy reading her blog.
My frustration is, as it always has been, that I don't think we are doing enough to take care of our own kids, in this country. I think that if the US were in better shape economically, socially, and whateverly, we would be able to better give to the rest of the world.
Imagine the power of half a million happily adopted foster children, and the changes they could make in this world...

Hi Here from Granny J's.
It is the same down here in Australia & New Zealand. No one wants to take on the older child. It seems wrong that it has been 'fashionable' to adopt children from other countries. I feel sorry for the children.
